Strathrae Colliery
Operating as an open-cast contract mining site since 2024, focuses on delivering high-quality coal.
Strathrae, located between Wonderfontein and Carolina, is an active contract mining project and a key contributor to IPP’s growing operational footprint. Mining is currently underway on Portion 1 of the reserve, forming part of a larger area covering approximately 7,966
hectares. The site holds an estimated 2.4 million metric tons of coal and delivers a steady average of 65,000 tons per month. Designed for long-term production, the project is expected to span over three years, driven by focused planning and a commitment to operational excellence.
On-site infrastructure includes a weighbridge, PC dam, and essential facilities such as office containers, ensuring smooth day-to-day coordination. Strathrae also highlights IPP’s commitment to social responsibility, with initiatives like the relocation of Siphakamile Combined School demonstrating consideration for local communities and long-term development. The project plays an integral role in strengthening coal supply while promoting inclusive growth and sustainable mining practices.
